A Surprising Finish to the First Round of the MLB Post-Season

Man, what a shocking end of the season the MLB has had this year. Tampa coming back from a 9 game deficit to win the A.L. Wild Card, with the Cards also coming back from a huge deficit. Speaking of the Cardinals, who thought that they would be able to win a series against maybe the best National League team, i certainly didn't, but then again, I didn't even think they would be able to make the Post-Season, but they proved me wrong with their great run and have done it again. After a two-two series tie going back to Philadelphia, both teams sent their aces to the mound (Halladay and Carpenter). After Halladay had a 30 pitch first inning allowing one run, he pitched a heck of a game until the 9th inning where the Phillies went to their bullpen. In the meantime, Carpenter put up zeroes for 9 full innings winning the game and series for St. Louis.

On the other hand, the Powerful Yankees lost their series against Detroit. Doug Fister was the winner of that game with Ivan Nova being the loser. I must admit that I was surprised of the outcome. The Yankees are considered one of the best offensive teams in the MLB yet their offence really wasn't consistent in the series. With such a veteran team, you expect them to come out and be ready to play night in and night out. That wasn't the case.

As it is, the Second round of the play-offs will be: Cards vs. Brewers (N.L.) and Tigers vs. Rangers (A.L.). Who knows, maybe the second round will be as entertaining as the first. If it is, then we`re in for a heck of a ride!
